Celt in a Twist celtic music podcast for January 24, 2010

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

People outside the Lower Mainland must think that the city of Vancouver has gone Olympics MAD.  It’s all we seem to think about in the weeks leading up to the games.  It’s not our fault!  Even if you’re not involved in the games themselves (I’m a volunteer, but not a sports fan), even if you’re not planning on attending any games or celebrations, it’s impossible to escape the barrage of Olympic media coming at us.

For the first time, all billboard advertising in the city has to be for Olympic sponsors.  Even posters inside the buses and Skytrain cars has to be for sponsors.  It’s a little eerie.  Every newspaper features stories on the Olympics, or the torch relay.  OK, above the fold, Haiti.  Below the fold, Olympics.  Every news broadcast has at least two stories about the games.

There’s no escape.  Surrender, resistance is futile.

Luckily we had our minds on our music when we recorded this week’s Celt in a Twist. Listen to the podcast on our player, here, or we’re also available on our podcast page and the iTunes store for easy download. Or tune in to AM1470 Sunday, January 24, at 4 pm, (Metro Vancouver area) to hear the show on the radio.
