SUNDAY, July 13thth @ 10pm IN THE SPOTLIGHT with MARIACHI LOS DORADOS

No walls, no border guards and no minutemen can stem the flow of Mexico’s musical renaissance. Our closest Latin American neighbor is experiencing a boom in electronic, alternative and traditional music styles from Tijuana to Tapachula.  Even the most time-honored and recognizable music in Mexico, mariachi is enjoying a resurgence of popularity. Every year, mariachi bands from around the globe gather in Guadalajara, ‘the land of the Mariachis’ for an international festival, where they compete and learn from the best. Mariachi Los Dorados will be Canada’s representatives in Guadalajara. Their director, Alex Alegria and ‘Canadian turned mariachi’, Mark D’Angelo join Vanesa in Today’s Spotlight.

INSIDE THE BEAT: Enrique Garza had always planned on his kids helping him become a country music star in Nashville. That’s why his boys, Henry, Jojo and Ringo received the benefit of all his musical knowledge as they grew up. Ironically, as the chemistry between the boys gelled, it was Daddy Garza who was kicked out of the band so Los Lonely Boys could explore the full potential of their Texican-style rock and blues. We have their father’s side of the story and a video gem from Los Lonely Boys as we go Inside The Beat.
